Kendrick Lamar drops video for DNA.
Kendrick Lamar is here and not playing with any of you hoes. His surprise album, DAMN., is already set to chart at #1 but in case there wasn't enough momentum for that to happen, we now have a visual for the breakout hit, DNA.
This video was directed by Nabil and of course, the little homies, and features the icoooonic Don Cheadle playing an investigator of some sort. The video starts will the famous audio clip of Fox News commentators critiquing Kendrick's last album and overall persona.
It's safe to say that Kendrick is being "interrogated" in the video because of his loyalty to the black community and resolving the issues within it. It's also interesting to me that he is being investigated by another black man which also shows the fact that not only is he being targeted by white media, but also by other black people.
SN: Remember when some parts of Black Twitter attacked Kendrick for the lines he said about women and natural beauty in his last single, HUMBLE.? Yeah...That part.
From the first line Don Cheadle spoke, I could tell that he wasn't just portraying any "black man." He was portraying a "whitewashed" black man. Someone who is DEFINITELY not seen as "loyal" or even trustworthy to most people in the black community. It's said twice in the video that DNA stands for "Dead Nigga Association." I believe that Cheadle is portraying a black man who is "dead" of course not literally but figuratively, possibly to other black people. It is all quite interesting!
Kendrick then "possess" him and then an epic lip sync battle ensues...Like seriously, it's epic:
The entire video could've taken place in this "interrogation room" but nah, Kendrick "kills" Cheadle and leaves the room and to hang with the homies:
Overall, the video is GREAT. It's so creative and definitely keeps your attention! You've GOTTA watch it:
